This Week

We had another eventful week. We started off going to Arlington National Cemetery for Memorial Day. I had no idea how big that place is...it is huge! It really gave us an appreciation of all those who have served and died for our country. While we were there we saw the Iwo Jima statue, Robert E. Lee's house, John F. Kennedy's burial, and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Thursday we headed to the zoo...again. Hey, it's free and we still haven't seen everything there. I'm sure we will be going back many times. Friday we went to the Contemporary Art Museum, the kids got very bored so we headed to the Air and Space Museum. Yep, that's our second time there too and there's still more to see! We were going to go check out The Capitol today, but because of severe thunderstorms, we headed to the mall instead. Tomorrow is Lexi's birthday so I will be posting pictures of the 3 year old very soon!

Just thought this picture was so cute of Jace. He looks like a little lion poking his head up out of the grass.

Hippos at the Zoo

Alpaca's! These are my new favorite animal...I think they are so cute. We might get one someday :-)

This statue is a lot bigger than it looks in pictures.

In front of Robert E. Lee's house, which was built by George Washington's step son. Robert E. Lee was actually married here and then moved in after he was married.

The tomb of the unknown soldier. Did you know that this tomb is guarded 24/7, no matter the conditions, and has been since 1937.

Getting Out!

We've been in D.C. a little over a week now, and I've taken about 260 pictures! This past week has been great. While Tyson was getting situated with his new job, the kids and I got to go check out the sights...we barely scratched the surface. I get really nervous about doing things on my own for the first time, but on Tuesday the kids and I met up with Janalee Fish (a Franklin Pierce wife) at the Smithsonian. The kids and I had our first adventure on the metro...never done it before, all on our own! I was very proud of myself. Tuesday we went to the Museum of Natural History, the architectural garden and the Space and Air Museum. The kids had a great time and it was so fun to see such amazing things. On Thursday we went to the zoo (always a hit) and on Friday we went back to the architectural garden and the Museum of Natural History again (still haven't seen everything after 2 days of being there). Saturday we went and saw the Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument, World War II Memorial, and the Vietnam Memorial...with Tyson! I've learned so much in one week...and there's so much more to see and do! It has been amazing!

D.C.!

We made it to D.C. yesterday! The drive down went surprisingly really well! Lexi got to ride half way with her friend Gretta, and watch Cinderella, until we had to part ways (they were headed to Delaware). Thanks Mike and Melanie! I was really worried about Jace, but he did awesome! We are subleasing this apartment from one of Tyson's friends from BYU. He and his wife are in CA doing an internship there, so we got to fill their place. This place is just like a hotel. There's a lobby, front desk, a pool and fitness center on the bottom floor and it's in these high rise buildings with hotels and restaurants all around. So it really is like we're just on a long vacation. The one bedroom might get old, but can't complain. I will post pictures soon!

Jace & Lexi

We decided to get some pictures of the kids before we headed to DC. Taking pictures of Jace is pretty much impossible, but we did get a few cute ones. Here are a couple.

Miss Lexi

Even more impossible than pictures by himself, pictures of both the kids

I just loved his expression in this picture

my favorite

These are seriously the ONLY pictures (our of like 100) where's he's actually looking at me. I guess all you need is one right???

*Note to grandma's - I will be printing some for all of you*

Recital

I had my first violin recital this past weekend. I felt really silly playing since I've only been taking lessons for a few months. But for the most part it went ok...except the part when I started shaking and messed up and the bow went flying out of my hands...ok that didn't really happen, but I did get more nervous than I thought I would. I am loving the violin though and I just want to keep getting better...so don't laugh at the video. This was after the actual recital since we forgot to take the camera with us.

One year old!

I will say it again...I can't believe Jace is one year old already. This past year has gone by so fast! Here's what we did on his birthday.

*Woke up and opened presents, which consisted of a Tonka race track, balls, clothes, cars, tractor, hammer, pj's...etc. He wanted me to tell everyone thanks for his awesome presents!

*For lunch we headed to Chuckee Cheese
*We met Pratt's there to celebrate Boston's birthday as well, his being the day before Jace.

*This was his favorite!
The birthday boys!

*Finished the day off with not even his own birthday cake but left over of Tyson's (am i such a bad mom or what??? He didn't seem to mind!)
Kylene and I one year ago with our new baby boys! Don't we just look lovey!
