Washington to Washington

My parents came to visit us last week and the kids and I got to show them around DC. We packed a lot of things in and didn't even scratch the surface. They just have to keep coming back to see more! The weather was perfect while they were here, most of the time we were in short sleeve shirts...it was awesome

Monday we went to Arlington National Cemetery. We did the tour bus that drops us off at the major spots there. This was at the tomb of the unknown soldier, which is guarded 24/7. I am fascinated each time by the changing of the guard.

Tuesday we hit the air and space museum...my dad could have spent the entire week here.

We also went to the archives building on Tuesday, but didn't get pictures there.

Wednesday we did the monuments/memorials. This is at the World War II memorial.

We went to the top of the Washington Monument

The Lincoln Memorial

Reflecting at the reflecting pool

The Jefferson Memorial

FDR Memorial

Dorothy's ruby red slippers from the Wizard of Oz

We also went to the crime and punishment museum, which was a lot of fun.

Before mom and dad left we went and picked out pumpkins.
Thanks for coming to see us mom and dad. We love you and want you to come back already!!!

What we've been up to

We finally feel like we are getting adjusted to our new life in Virginia. Tyson is feeling more comfortable with work every day and the kids and I are finding our way around. One weekend we went to Burke park, which had a little train ride, carousel, playground, lake, golf course, camping...it had everything. The kids had fun on the train...It looks like Jace was scared, but he was just showing me his teeth.

Last Friday I babysat our friends kids...this is what happens when you send them to my house...chocolate cupcakes!!!
Lexi, Zach, Gretta, Russell, Jace, Isaac
We went to the National Mall area this past weekend...just a cute picture

The Move

When we moved out to New Hampshire for law school I swore I would NEVER make the drive across the country again. Well, I guess it's like child birth, you forget how bad it really is. Fortunately the kids did awesome and we had no car troubles! We did a crazy thing and spent two of the 3 nights in the car, which would have been fine, but we didn't really have that much room. The back was completely full. Tyson and I took the middle seat and the kids took the front seats. We've found out that Jace can sleep anywhere, under steering wheels, with his head resting on the seatbelt...no big deal.

We made it to Nauvoo the 2nd day...a much needed break. We stayed in a hotel, got a good night's rest and spent most of the day in Nauvoo, walking around.

This picture is on the steps at the Nauvoo temple

Isn't this the cutest picture? This at a little stop called Pioneer Pastimes in Nauvoo

After some time in Nauvoo, we headed to Carthage, which was about 20 min. away. Here's my hotty husband in front of the bullet hole that was shot through and had killed Hyrum Smith, the prophet's brother.

So, although we had a successful trip I will NEVER drive across the country again...I guess we'll see what happens in a couple years. I may forget haha.
